Over the past several months, Canada has welcomed nearly 25,000 Syrian refugees into the country. As part of these efforts, Ritu Bhasin of bci joined Team Everest, a Lifeline Syria group that is sponsoring two families (16 refugees). Lifeline Syria is devoted to assisting sponsor groups as they welcome and support Syrian refugees coming to Canada. You can learn more about the important work they are doing here: http://lifelinesyria.ca/ourwork/.
In response to the needs of Ritu’s group, bci created a cultural guide to help refugee sponsors learn about Syrian cultural practices and differences in key areas, including: family life, gender roles, communication, and social interactions. Content developed for bci’s guide will be included in Lifeline Syria’s comprehensive cultural guide to be published this spring.
